7 Plus Size Balletcore Must Haves
Looking to add some plus size balletcore pieces to your wardrobe?
This gorgeous aesthetic has been storming up the charts in recent years, and it’s time that you find the RIGHT pieces for your wardrobe (if you want).
This aesthetic is essentially a cute and comfy version of what you’d wear to a ballet class or on stage. Whether you’re looking for puffy tulle or pretty dresses, there’s something ballet-esque out there for you.
Here are my favorite plus size balletcore must haves, which will you add to your wardrobe?
Plus Size Balletcore Must-Haves
1. Ballet-Style Dress
The pinnacle of a balletcore outfit is the dress, in my humble opinion. Luckily, for those of us into something a little fun and flowing, there are plenty of options out there.
A traditional ballet-style dress tends to be more fitted in the top area with a flowing skirt that dances while you spin. It’s elegant, fun and perfect for the warm summer days.
EDITOR’S PICK
Twisted 2-in-1 Barre Ballet Dance Dress by Halara
Size range: XS to 4X
Largest size measurements (4X):
- Bust 47 inches
- Waist 49 inches
- Hip 60 inches
Color: Pink Purple, Blue Spruce, Light Grey Blue, Black, Majolica Blue, Salsa, Aster Blue, Fig, Withered Green, White
My top choice for a balletcore style dress is Halara’s 2-in-1 Barre Ballet Dance Dress because of it’s practicality. It’s the PERFECT ballet-style dress for your more active days.
Much like a full-on workout bodysuit, this dress is built for movement. It has a 2-in-1 construction, which means under the skirt of the dress there are actually a sneaky pair of shorts (hello, skort design!).
But if you’re looking for something a little more traditional ballet – flowing, puffy and fun, you can find those too:

I have to admit my favorite of the three picks is the short, cute Ballet Dress by Jessa Kae. It looks like something straight out of Bridgeton that my favorite plus size mystery writer, Pen, would wear!
2. Bodysuit
Bodysuits are another classic ballet core item. You can dress them up or down, and the BEST part is there won’t be anything rolling up or down awkwardly.
Honestly, you can pair a bodysuit with ALMOST everything – from jeans to a tulle skirt (see below) or even some fun shorts for the summer!
EDITOR’S PICK
Scuba Modern Tank Bodysuit by Good American
Size range: XS to 5X
Largest size measurements (5X):
- Bust 58 inches
- Waist 57 inches
Color: Fiery Coral, Knockout Pink, Rose Quartz, Dark Cocoa, Blue Rinse, Light Mocha, Fuschia Pink, Pecan, White, Black
I love something truly basic like Good American’s Scuba Modern Tank Bodysuit.
It has a square neck that’s both modern and classy, and it comes in a super cute ballet pink color (not quite as crazy as Barbiecore style though). But there are a few other choices I like as well, depending on the look you’re going for:
From a scoop neck to something with fun, flowing sleeves, the bodysuit is a great pick for a ballet core outfit.
3. Ballet flats
Ballet flats are my FAVORITE type of shoe. They’re cute, casual and work in almost any scenario. I also happen to love that they’re very packable, perfect to drop into your carry on.

Comfort Elastic Slip On Ballet Flat Shoes by Lands’ End
Material: Suede or Leather
Style: Ballet Flat
Width Options: Medium, Wide
Size Range: 6 US to 11 US
Color: Navy, Khaki, Black, Mulberry, Cognac
The Comfort Elastic Slip On is my top pick. Lands’ End has a ton of great plus size picks, and this is no exception. I like that these shoes can fold up, slip on and can be worn almost everywhere.
The 5 different shoe colors are all cute neutrals that can work with almost any outfit. While they probably don’t have enough support to work for a day at Disneyland, they’re a little more dressy than a standard pair of walking shoes.
If you want something a little more structured, there are a few other choices for you. From knit to bendable, the ballet flat is truly versatile.
4. Tulle
For something dressy and fun, tulle is for you.
This fluffy, puffy fabric pairs elegantly with a basic body suit, or you can dress it up (or down) with something a little more daring.
Not to mention it’s VERY balletcore.

I admit that finding a solid tulle dress for a plus size body can be a bit of a challenge. Luckily, I’ve found a few that are made to your measurements, that should make it easier to find the right fit.

Tulle is cute on its own, or paired with something else.
If you really want to dress it up, I highly recommend throwing on a masquerade mask or flashy crown and wear it to your next New Year’s party!
5. Tights
Adding a pair of plus size tights are something that can really add to your overall ballet look. I LOVE a cute ballet pink tight paired with a cute tulle-style dress (though if you’re going with the blue one, I might recommend white tights).
Not only can these help smooth and shape your legs (not that you need to!) but it can provide a real put-together look. Whether you’re dressing up a shacket or sporting a fun southern dress.
Tights come in all shapes and sizes, from cute lace to basic neutrals. They also go with almost any outfit and can help take your wardrobe from basic to formal with a single item!
6. Legwarmers
Leg warmers are a fun throwback to the 1980s (though I was still wearing them in the ’90s), and have a slight ballet-style look to them. Not ALL ballet dancers wear leg warmers, but you certainly can… even if you’re not one.
I’ll fully admit that none of these leg warmers look particularly ballet-ish, but that’s because they’re kind of hard to find for plus size folks. So, I worked with what I could get my hands (figuratively) on.
I particularly like the super cute yellow knit leg warmers. I would recommend pairing it with something cute like the ballet-style dress featured at the top. However, I’d probably go with a more neutral color to make the yellow really pop.
7. Hair Accents
If you don’t want to go all-out on the balletcore aesthetic but you do want to add a little something to your wardrobe, I HIGHLY recommend checking out some of these ballet-style hair accessories.

Lady Bow by Free People
It’s a small touch but it’s cute, coming in 5 different colors there is plenty of ways to accent your outfit.
Bows are the first thing that pops into my head when it comes to ballet-style hair accessories, but there are other items you can add to your collection.
Headbands, for example, a very Blair Waldorf style accessory can add a touch of dance to your hair.

Hair Clips
That said, you can get even simpler.
Claw clips are a staple in my hair kit, and they can help you design a more ballet focused look. Not only are they practical, and tend to cause your hair less stress, but you can use them to help you create a stellar bun-tight style.
Final thoughts: plus size ballet core
I’ll admit that the balletcore aesthetic isn’t for everyone, but for those of us that love it, there ARE plus size pieces out there. From fun-yet-basic dresses to puffy tulle skirts, bigger bodies can style themselves after the classy ballet theme.
I think my favorite items on this are the Halara dress (it’s just SO DANG cute) and the blue tulle dress because it reminds me a bit of Cinderella. Whether you want to dress like a real-life Disney princess or you’re just looking for something cute for tennis, you have options.
So, which is your favorite plus size balletcore piece?
