Where to Buy a Plus Size Maleficent Costume
Halloween is just around the corner, which means it’s time to start thinking costumes!
There are a ton of Disney costume ideas for us larger folks out there.
If you’re looking to walk on the dark side for a while, finding the perfect plus size Maleficent costume is an excellent choice.
But where can you find one, and what can you add to make it one for the books? Let’s talk about it.
Who is Maleficent?
Maleficent is a powerful, dark fairy with a killer costume.
While this character is sometimes portrayed as a nasty witch, she’s actually a malevolent fairy… but she wasn’t always evil.
After suffering a ruthless betrayal, her pure heart is turned to stone. Earning her the “pure evil” badge that we give her today.
Costume-wise, she’s known for her black cape, bending horns and green-tinted skin.
She originally appeared in Disney’s cartoon film, Sleeping Beauty (1959) but has been revived in her own live-action series where she’s played by Angelina Jolie.

Where to buy a plus size Maleficent costume
If you want to dress up as this dark fairy for Halloween, you’ll need to find a plus size Maleficent costume.
While we all know larger sizing can often be limited — especially in pre-made costumes, we did find a few that might fit the bill!

1. Amazon
Amazon is a great place to start your search for a plus size Maleficent costume.
I particularly like the elaborate one that you can get from CosplayDiy.
Not only does it have a range of sizes from XS to 3X, but they also offer a custom sizing offer.
This is PERFECT if you find that traditional sizing simply doesn’t work for you.

Amazon’s a great marketplace because they have everything from intricate and detailed, to something simple like this Disguise dress that you can toss in and run.
An excellent choice if you need to dress up to help out in your daughter’s kindergarten class!
The big downside is they don’t have a ton of great sizing options.

Not to mention, Amazon tends to be a better option for finding budget costumes.
This one by Charades is less than $55 for the entire thing.
Is that the cheapest costume out there? No, not at all!
But it’s a decent price if you’re looking for a quick, easy, all-in-one option!
2. Etsy
Skyflame’s gorgeous sparkly black number comes in sizes up to a 3X, which isn’t ideal for all plus size ladies.
Especially if you consider the higher-ticket price.
However, it is a gorgeous pick if you’re looking to get all shiny and drapey!
Honestly, if you were looking for a hella gothic wedding dress, and were willing to overlook the slight plasticy-shine, this would be a WILD pick.
Perhaps a better option is something simpler with custom sizing available, like the purple and black cape combination by LydiaCosplay.
To create the perfect sized costume, they’ll need your:
- Height
- Bust
- Waist
- Hips
- Shoulder length
But if the reviews are any indication, the price is well worth it.
InCosArt also has a more detailed option that has custom sizing available.
Their Mistress of Evil costume features skull detailing on the front, which is a fun accent if you want a darker option.
This costume also gets stellar reviews, but it’s a tad bit better priced than a few of our others.
If you want something custom-sized but you need to keep it under $100, this is probably going to be your best bet.
3. HalloweenCostumes.com
I’ll be honest, HalloweenCostumes.com usually has a much larger selection of plus sizes.
Unfortunately, that’s not the case with their Maleficent costume.
Right now, they only have a single choice that ends at an XL — barely an option if you have a bigger body.
However, their sizing options change often. It’s entirely possible that closer to Halloween they’ll have additional sizing and/or costume options.
However, they have a few great Maleficent accessories you can use to build your own costume we’ve included in the “make your own” section!
4. Walmart
If inexpensive and easy is what you’re looking for, Walmart tends to be a great place to check out.
This Charades costume is the same one you can find at Amazon (see above), ringing in at less than $30.
While the pictures are better, it unfortunately doesn’t have any extra sizing.
If you want something cheap and easy, Walmart always has plus size Halloween options available both in-store and online.
The Storybook Sourceress costume isn’t exactly the right fit, but California Costumes did something similar.
The primary issue is that the colors are slightly off. It has a little more green than it should.
However, it still comes with a high neck and a set of identifiable horns!
Make your own plus size Maleficient costume
Dress
In my books, Shein’s layered mesh desk is the perfect pairing for a homemade Maleficent costume.
It features a shiny and sparkly layer of mesh that sparkles as you swirl.
There’s an extra flowing layer at the hips, and flowing mesh sleeves.
Overall, it’s a pretty dress that can be used to create a plus size Maleficent costume with the right accessories.
When I’m creating a costume, what I’m really looking for is something I can wear elsewhere.
I realize that Maleficent’s dress isn’t sparkly purple, but isn’t this glitter dress adorable?
I like that it mixes a little glitter and shimmer with flowing sleeves and a flattering wrap bodice.
Perhaps what I like most is the price tag.
For less than $60, you’re picking up a cute-as-hell dress.
Granted, it’s from Shein, so unless you’re very careful you’ll only get a few wears out of it.
Cape
Shein is rockin’ the make-your-own list for this post.
Primarily because they have a ton of low-cost options that allow you to create the Maleficent costume of your dreams.
You can knock out both the dress and cape with a single purchase if you go with this cape and dress combo.
Granted, the dress isn’t exactly the perfect choice.
But you pair it with horns and everyone will get who you’re supposed to be.

Technically, a steampunk-style cape isn’t the same thing as a dark fairy cape.
But if you’re looking for an item that can be used in more than a single costume, it might be a better move to go historic than dainty.
But honestly, it depends on the costumes you’re trying to create.
Horns
Horns are an integral part of the Maleficent costume.
You can put on pretty much any flowy black, purple, or other colored dark dress, match it with the right horns and you’re good to go!

The right horns are by nature shiny, and slightly curved.
They also feature a slight v-dip at the top of the forehead and have a helmet-like appearance around your head.
Staff
The staff (or septer) is the perfect final piece for your outfit.
A simple item, it can pull the whole costume together.
You can create your plus size Maleficent costume sans staff.
But if you want to make it clear, it’s not a bad idea to include it!

If you want something with a little more pizazz, this light-up staff should do the trick.
Modeled off one that Maleficent uses, it has a green LED bulb at the top that adds a little shine to your overall outfit.
