Self care is becoming a hot topic these days with COVID-19 dictating our daily lives and ability to interact with one another. While there are a ton of ways to practice it, one of my go-tos for a quick moment to myself is finding the best face mask.
When it comes to face masks, I put one on, crawl into the bath and watch an episode of whatever I’m into on that particular day. These times are a top contender for my favourite time of day. So what is the best face mask? Let’s find out!

Best Clay Face Masks
Editors Pick for Best Face Mask: Wei Golden Root Purifying Mud Mask
I really LOVE the Wei Golden Root Purifying Mud Mask. I got the Wei brown sugar and mud mask combination together in my Spring 2020 FabFitFun box and I LOVED them both. It has a really lovely smell, goes on smooth and doesn’t itch like many of the mud masks, which is a huge bonus!
I also love the luxury of the mask brush that it comes with, I actually now use the brush to apply all of my face masks because you get a nice even layering of the mask. These are luxury masks and I would highly recommend them to anyone looking for a truly quality face mask.
Generation Clay Ultra Violet Brightening Face Mask
I also got the Generation Clay Brightening Mask in a FabFitFun box. It has a nice look and feel and works like a charm, I particularly love the purple just because. However, I do find that it itches as it dries so you’ll definitely want to take it off sooner rather than later.
To use this bad boy, you’ll want to put a generous layer on and let it dry. I recommend taking it off in a few minutes—I also brush this on with my Wei mask brush, typically before I start running the bath. I run the bath, and by the time I’m ready to get in the mask is ready to come off.
Aztec Secret Indian Healing Clay Mask
My sister asked for the Aztec Secret Healing Clay for Christmas one year, and by all accounts she really liked it. This mask comes as a powder that you have to mix together, and you can use it on almost any area of your skin to give it a pick-me-up.
To use this clay mask you mix it with equal parts apple cider vinegar or water and stir it until it’s a smooth paste. Then apply it to your skin and let it dry for 5 to 20 minutes, depending on your skin. Once it’s dried, you simply wash it off with warm water.
Best Peel-Off Face Masks
Boscia Cactus Water Peel-off Mask
I have a love-hate relationship with peel-off face masks. If you get the wrong one they can be pinchy and awkward. But if you find the right one they can be amazing. The Boscia Cactus Water Peel-off Mask is in the “right” category.
This fancy little face mask is made of cactus, sea fern algae extract and vitamin C to rejuvenate, nourish and brighten your skin. There are no preservatives and they’re made for sensitive skin.
Vivo Per Lei 24K Gold Brightening Face Mask
Despite not having experienced the Vivo Per Lei 24K Gold Brightening Face Mask myself, I’ve heard great things about it. This gold peel off face mask detoxifies, renews and improves your overall skin tone.
You apply a layer of this mask and leave it for 15 minutes before peeling it away for clean and glowing skin. Wearers say that it works best if you let it completely dry. They also report that it smells nice, moisturizes and is easy to apply.
Freeman Peel-Off Clay Mask
If you’re looking for a cheap but effective clay mask, then the Freeman Peel-Off clay mask is for you. This particular one is what I’ve used before—is a combination of sweet tea and lemon.
This one is super easy to use but I don’t recommend mixing it with a bath because the humidity of the bathroom will make it take longer to dry. It’s a great mask to throw on as you’re getting ready for bed. You simply let it dry and just peel it off.

I am a HUGE fan of anything that helps to improve sleep, seriously BRING IT ON. That’s why I’m a huge fan of sleep face mask. In particular, I love that TONYMOLY Lavender Lullaby uses lavender extract which is a scent that can help lull you to sleep.
To use it, you want to spread a thin layer on your face and massage it into the skin. It works overnight to help you relax, hydrate your skin and soothes irritated skin.

TeaTree Soothing Mask
Another great product made with tea tree oil (which I LOVE) the TeaTree Soothing Mask is cruelty-free and vegan (which I also love). The tea tree oil helps troubled, acne-prone and sensitive skin.
It doesn’t have any of those pesky harmful substances that help to make your skin angry, and it can be used daily if you want just to give you a nice refresh!

These Korean Skincare masks are a thicker quality that are designed specifically to give you the spa feeling at home. You simply sit back, relax and wait while your skin gets refreshed. It gently cleanses and detoxifies to leave your skin happy.

Purlisse Watermelon Energizing Polishing Peel
This is not the most traditional choice, but it’s one of the best face masks that is out there. You can use the Purlisse Watermelon Energizing Polishing Peel daily (I do) right before you go to bed to give you face a little pick-me-up.
This exfoliates and polishes your face and only needs two or so minutes to work before you wash it off. It makes my skin feel excellent. It’s a natural, clean and cruelty-free formula that I whole heartedly stand by.
I fell in love with the Cosmedix Glow Bamboo Brightening Mask after I got a bottle in one of my subscription boxes (I think it was last spring’s Causebox), and to date I have the tiniest bit left before I have to replace it (and I will). It has a nice hint of lemon smell with soft but effective exfoliating beads.
This is by far my go-to face mask. Especially when I don’t have a ton of time because you don’t have to put it on for a prolonged period of time to get the most out of it. It’s made from a combination of bamboo stem extract, niacinamide and tetrahexyldecyl ascorbate. If you’re looking for a mask that your skin will love, the Cosmedix is definitely it.
